Mr Timothy M Bull - FRCS(Orth)

Mr Timothy M Bull
Consultant

Mr Timothy Bull qualified from Westminster Medical School, London in 1986. After his basic surgical training program at Charing Cross Hospital, London and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London, he spent some time training in plastic surgery, before entering Orthopaedic training.

After specialist Orthopaedic training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London, Addenbrook's Hospital, Cambridge and the East Anglian Orthopaedic program, He was then appointed National Fellow in Spinal Surgery, at the Centre for the Study and Surgery of the Spine and the Neurosurgical Unit, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. He has been trained in both orthopaedic spinal surgery as well as neurosurgical procedures.

He now holds a full-time NHS Consultant post at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, London. Mr Bull's clinical practice is exclusively Spinal Surgery, with a special interest in cervical and lumbar disc replacement, non-fusion technology, including dynamic neutralisation and interspinous distraction devices, as well as minimal access spinal surgery. Most recently he has been using endoscopic surgery for lumbar disc prolapse, which allows patients to return to normal activities much earlier. However he not only treats degenerative spinal problems ( back pain, sciatica or brachalgia), but more complex problems such as spinal cord compression, spinal tumours and fractures.

Mr Bull has lectured and presented on many subjects, more recently, disc replacement and dynamic neutralisation of the spine, at national and international meetings. He is a faculty member of the AOUK Spine Foundation, the Continental Surgeon's course and the East Anglian Orthopaedic Training program. He is also an active member of the British Association of Spine Surgeons, The British Spinal Study Group, The East Anglian Spine Group and The European Spine Society. He is also lead investigator for a national, multi-centre study comparing fusion and a dynamic spinal neutralisation system for treating low back pain and part of an international study using an interspinous distraction device to prevent back pain after discectomy.

Though fully trained in all aspects of Spinal Surgery, he currently cannot offer a service for patients with paediatric scoliosis.
